7+ Netflix Holiday Movies

Blogmas, Holidays, Treats

The Holidays are about spending time with the people you love. Like most families, Netflix has become a part of our Christmas Traditions. The blessing and curse of Netflix is that they are always changing their offerings, so you can often find something new to watch but they do not always have your favorite. **Cough – The Nightmare Before Christmas – Cough**

I talked to Keanna and some close friends and watched suggestion after suggestion. Below you will find 7+ Netflix Holiday Movies that moved me. I could have easily done a list just as long of horrible movies, so save yourself the annoyance and check these out. Just forget about most of the rest.

Netflix Holiday Movies for the Family

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas
Directed by Bradley Raymond, Jun Falkenstein, Bill Speers, & Toby Shelton
Narrated by Kelsey Grammer
Out of the three options, this was easily my favorite. One of the shorts centers on Goofy and Max who were always my favorite. Also has mean Pete who was also a favorite. Sweet family movies that shows the true meaning of Christmas.

Mickey’s Magical Christmas gets an honorable mention for having Scrooge McDuck in A Christmas Carol. It is a classic in my book.

Dreamworks Holiday Classics
Starring um everyone from Ben Stiller to  Chris Rock, to Jada Pinkett Smith
I am a big kid at heart and loved these shorts. In fact, I had never seen How to Train Your Dragon, and their little movie was so adorable that I have to watch the full movies now. Only downside is that I thought “Classics” meant that we would be seeing King Julian as Scrooge, but nope. I guess they are making new classics!

Miracle on 34th Street
Directed by Les Mayfield
Starring: Robert Prosky, Mara Wilson, James Remar, J. T. Walsh, Dylan McDermott, Elizabeth Perkins, Richard Attenborough
The cynical part of me wants to see these as a long ad for Macy’s, but the larger part wants to believe in Santa. This classic is a remake of an even more classic film. Plus, I loved Mara Wilson in all of her movies when I was a kid.

Saving Santa
Directed by Leon Joosen and Aaron Seelman
Starring: Martin Freeman, Tim Curry, Noel Clarke, Tim Conway, Pam Ferris, Ashley Tisdale, & Joan Collins
I love BBC’s Sherlock so whenever I hear Martin Freeman, I get confused. In my mind, he should always be Watson. Here he plays an elf who despite all the odds saves the day. Spoiler alert!

Directed by Richard Donner
Starring: Bill Murray, Karen Allen, John Forsythe, Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, Robert Mitchum, Michael J. Pollard, & Alfre Woodard
Keanna suggested this one to me as she is a big fan. I came in kinda skeptical and was curious if it holds up. It does. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised as Dicken’s original holds up, too. Silly and fun for the whole family. Should warn there is slight nudity, profanity, and a little violence.

Netflix Holiday Movies for Adults

Tree Man – Documentary
Directed by Jon Reiner, Brad Rothschild
Everyone in NYC has passed tree sellers on the street. But how many have wondered about the tree men and women.  Who knew selling trees on the streets of NYC goes back to 1951. I would give the documentary a B minus. We mainly follow one man, Francois, and his team – Jason, Nelson, and Angel in their quest to make a living by selling trees. After so many years as a tree man, we get to see the community of friends and fans who keep him fed and loved during his month away from his family in Quebec. Would be a B-plus if it was a little shorter. Probably not good for kids as I doubt the documentary would keep their attention.

Love Actually
Directed by Richard Curtis
Starring: Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightley, Martine McCutcheon, Bill Nighy, Rowan Atkinson
You know how every holiday now has a massive movie with an even more massive cast? This is the original. We follow different people as they navigate love with their family, partners, and other people’s partners. You have probably seen this before, but it is worth rewatching.

BoJack Horseman Christmas Special: Sabrina’s Christmas Wish
Directed by Joel Moser
Starring: Will Arnett as BoJack Horseman, Amy Sedaris as Princess Carolyn, Alison Brie as Olivia, Aaron Paul as Todd Chavez.
Oddly this is not a part of the regular seasons, so you might have to specifically search for it.  As usual, it is hella dark… but what can you expect about a comedy that focuses on depression. If you liked Daria, and can get past the talking animals thing (you’d be surprised by how many can’t) then this is for you.
